Fireworks By The Bridge

Montreal has held its summer fireworks tradition for as long as I can remember.

Date - 2025 Location - Montreal, Quebec, Canada

I also remember working at La Ronde, where the fireworks actually take place, as a ride operator. Part of the staff’s job was to secure the site and partially close certain areas for the event. Some people may not know that the fireworks are not just a show, but a competition — accompanied by a live performance on site.

I remember volunteering as a watcher near the area where the show would unfold. Each country would bring its own flavour and cultural heritage to complement the lightwork in the sky. The central stage sits on Lac des Dauphins, right in the heart of the park.

The show is not only for the attendees. It belongs to the rest of the city as well. Montrealers can expect heavy road closures, including the closure of the Jacques Cartier Bridge, allowing people to watch from above. The Old Port also offers a prominent view of the fireworks. Bringing your car there, however, is definitely to be avoided.

I remember Australia and Italy for opposite reasons.

Australia was the loudest I had ever heard: a band on the water, in the middle of the lake, playing some of the loudest rock I had ever experienced in my life.

Italy was grace. The soothing side of the competition. The melody working in perfect harmony with the fire.

You can hear the soundtrack of the fireworks on the radio, although a certain delay remains. Should you want the full experience, you want to sit at La Ronde on a fireworks night.

This picture was taken in the Old Port, at a location my friend knew would give us a clear view of the spectacle.

It may not be exactly like when I used to be a ride operator, but it is close enough.

This is Montreal.
