Farine Five Roses
This emblematic sign is a lighthouse for Montrealers. The sign that tells us we have arrived. We are here.
I frequently travel to the United States for work. The Champlain Bridge servicing the Bonaventure Highway provides a direct view of the Farine Five Roses sign.
I pay no mind when I leave; the excitement of the mission brings the focus to the destination. It is for the very same reason that it brings a warm to my heart, after sometimes 6 hours of continuous driving.
To capture that picture, I was not driving. You can contemplate this Montreal monument by walking along the paths of the Old Port of Montreal. No buses or metro station brings you near; the price of the view is the walk.
It is appreciable during daytime, but the neon signage really comes to shine when the sun goes down. The intermittent illumination of the 3 words seems to be malfunctioning, perhaps left for the interesting play of light it brings.
I caught this cliché at sunset; not quite dark, but not too bright. This created the perfect setup for the reflection in the water. An unmistakable sign even when submerged.
